It seemed like such a long way away. I mean, it was the beginning of December. It was cold. Leaving for Ecuador was 6 months away. Josh had to finish his senior year and graduate, and we had parties/graduation/acceptance to college… there was so much life to happen between December and June. June is here and we are just 4 days away from leaving for Ecuador. It was near 100 degrees today in Alpharetta. High in Quito, Ecuador? 75 degrees! The altitude of Quito is 9252 feet so that will help keep us cool with 50 degree nights and highs forecast in the 70’s during the day. I will have to pack carefully to avoid being too cold!
30 of us are going to Ecuador but we did not get here by ourselves. We owe a tremendous thanks to all of our supporters. We take you with us as we leave the comfortable environment of Alpharetta and fly to South America.
Our Bible verse for this year is 1 Chronicles 16:24 “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!” As we go to declare, know that you who support us are helping that message to get there as well. When we arrive we will be representing Alpharetta First United Methodist Church and the larger Christian church in the USA to the people of Ecuador!
We will have two of our group who will stay in Quito to work with the Dunamis Ministry to teach jewelry making to girls breaking free from human trafficking. The rest of us will travel to work with Jungle Kids for Christ to help by building school buildings. In the evenings we will hold a vacation Bible school for children in the area.
Please pray for us as we prepare and go that God will prepare our spirits, minds and body to be God’s light and salt in Ecuador. That we will also be open to what God wants us to do and say as well as what God wants to teach us. The surprise in mission work is that those who give often receive more that those who receive. Pray got our safety, health and that God will pave the way ahead of us.
Jesus said “Go” so that we can “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”
